Norton Rose Fulbright: Supporting our LGBTI Employees

Norton Rose Fulbright (NRF) are committed to creating an inclusive environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex (LGBTI) professionals and employees. They have developed and implemented LGBTI inclusive policies and resources, including toolkits to help managers understand the challenges that an LGBTI team member may face and the support they can offer.

Employee resource group: Pride
NRF's global Pride network engages lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex (LGBT) and ally employees and partners across all of their offices. They currently have active chapters in the US, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore, London and South Africa. 

Pride contributes to the company's diversity and inclusion agenda by encouraging the recruitment, retention and professional development of LGBT talent, providing guidance on LGBT-inclusive policies and identifying opportunities to participate in volunteering and pro bono initiatives which support the LGBT community. Pride has also helped NRF to develop and strengthen relationships with clients through their own LGBT networks.

Showing Pride
In 2016, all offices joined forces on a global ‘Showing Pride’ campaign featuring employees and partners from all over the world wearing or displaying rainbow shoelaces in order to mark their support for the network and for LGBT inclusion.

NRF observe the International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT), with each office organizing activities to raise awareness. In Canada, for example, they hosted Stonewall Riot veteran Martin Boyce and Stonewall historian Eric Marcus where attendees heard first-hand about what happened during the Stonewall Riot. Globally, Pride members contributed a series of posts on issues faced by LGBT people in the workplace as part of their Perspectives diversity and inclusion blog. 

Marching for Pride
Many of their offices around the world participate in LGBT parades, including Pride in London and Houston, Mardi Gras in Sydney and Pink Dot in Hong Kong and Singapore. In Calgary, they are the sole legal partner for the Pride Parade and in 2016 a large group of partners and employees participated to show their support for LGBT rights and inclusion.
