This is the time of year some of us look forward to in anticipation. Parties, presents, relaxation and fun.

This is not the case for everyone. There are those who are struggling to find a job, a new career or new direction. Their thoughts are focused on that, rather than the parties that are coming up the thoughts are how are we going to pay for it all.

This is the case for many people. In the news the flooding will catch many peoples' attention.

Those who have been affected will have to start all over again. Some of those individuals would have saved for many years to get the house as they would like it, only for it to be destroyed, along with all the preparations for the festive period.

Then there are those who have lost their livelihoods, farmers, shops and other businesses.

Unfortunately unemployment doesn't just come through redundancy, termination of contract or other factors.

It is difficult to be positive during these times, especially at this time of year, while the song goes, "Tis the season to be jolly".

There is always uncertainty these in situations and loss of confidence  can be a factor.

The New Year does bring hope. Possibly a new direction, location, or rebuilding what had been at the heart of peoples' lives.

Getting through these hard times can make us stronger and able to cope with what's ahead.
