New PwC office opens in Bangladesh

PwC announced the inauguration of its office in Dhaka, further leveraging the opportunity to partner Bangladesh in its growth journey by offering services in areas of advisory and taxation.

The new office was inaugurated by Honourable Finance Minister Mr Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, with British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Alison Blake and Deputy Chief of Mission of US Embassy in Dhaka, David Meale in attendance.

Until now, people across the PwC network travelled to Bangladesh to work on various assignments. Setting up of this office is in line with the rising importance of Bangladesh in a global business scenario and PwC’s commitment to the country, its potential and its talent.

Deepak Kapoor, Chairman, PwC Bangladesh said, “As the Bangladesh economy continues to grow from strength to strength, we felt that this was the right time for a full-fledged PwC office in Dhaka, offering all PwC services, across various industry verticals. We are pleased to be able to work closely with multinational companies, private organisations and government agencies in the country.

“We see immense potential in several areas, particularly in Tax Advisory, Forensics, Cybersecurity, Government, Digital and Infrastructure sector. We look forward to playing a larger role in improving the quality of life of the people of Bangladesh, being able to open new opportunities for local business as well as the talented workforce,” he added.

Avijit Mukerji, Director, PwC Bangladesh said, “The focus for us right now is to quickly build scale and offer solutions to clients based on our understanding of both the Bangladesh market and the global trends so that our clients here can get ahead of the curve. This becomes especially important as we expect our large global clients to invest and expand in new markets like Bangladesh.”

PwC Bangladesh plans to recruit and develop about 500 professionals locally in the next five years from across educational backgrounds (for example, engineering, management, chartered accountancy). The Firm is also working with local professional bodies like the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) to groom industry ready professionals.

Mamun Rashid, Managing Partner, PwC Bangladesh said, “PwC is looking to build a long term relationship with its clients, people, and communities in Bangladesh through its newly set up office at Dhaka. Our plan is to build a high performing team of PwC professionals by recruiting talented individuals in Bangladesh. I am confident that the team we groom and develop will support an environment that encourages more companies to grow and expand.”
