At Network Rail we recognise that there are times when you may need to take a break from your profession. We also know that trying to return to work in the same industry after time out can be tough and daunting. Our Property returner programme is designed with you in mind as we appreciate that individuals like you can bring enriched experience and knowledge from your time out with you to our organisation.
Open to Surveyors of all levels and specialisms who have taken a voluntary break from practicing within the property field for 2 or more years, the 12 week programme is intended to bring your industry knowledge and skills back up to speed, whilst supporting you back into the workplace.
We are now looking for our first intake to start in September 2017
Surveying at Network Rail
Network Rail is one of the largest land and property owners in the country and the Property team is responsible for generating sustainable income from the estate for re-investment in our rail infrastructure.
This ranges from the management of our workplaces, to maximising commercial income and profit from our commercial lettings and retail estate, to optimising capital receipts and station enhancements from the development and disposal of surplus properties and land. All proceeds from commercial activities are reinvested in the operational rail network.
As a surveyor at Network Rail you will provide property advice and guidance on a range of property issues to support the delivery of a challenging programme of project works to deliver a safe, efficient, reliable and sustainable rail service. We have a wide range of Surveyors from planning and development to general commercial practice, who all play a vital part reducing industry costs, improving the passenger experience and creating great places for people, businesses and communities across the country.
One of our Senior Surveyors said “The variety of my role provides me with the most enjoyment as I deal with so many different customers and stakeholders - no case is the same! Property Services plays a key role in so many projects at Network Rail and without resolving property and access issues in a timely manner the knock on effect can be detrimental to the project.”
About the role
During your placement you will have the opportunity to learn more about our business, our priorities and our projects whilst progressively taking on more responsibility, as you’re ready. We hope that at the end of it there will be opportunity to stay permanently, if we all agree.
Don’t worry; you will have the support of a dedicated workplace buddy and mentor, in addition to the general support from our HR team and your new colleagues.
Salary varies depending on the role and location, however these opportunities pipeline into our surveyor roles which generally start around £39,200 or senior surveyors which start at £50,000.
The programme will start in September and flexible working can be considered. To be eligible for the programme you will need to be within commutable distance to one of our key locations;
- London (Euston & London Bridge)
- Milton Keynes
So what do we need from you?
We understand that it may not be possible to demonstrate your up to date knowledge or industry experience and therefore if you meet our essential criteria below please submit your expression of interest with your CV showing these items and your career break via our requisition.
- MRICS qualified (at any level)
- Previous surveying experience
- Minimum of 2 years not practicing in the surveying/property industry.
- A commitment to work a minimum of 20 hours a week
