It’s finally Family Support Week! Wait, family support week?!
Nilo Ali, Resourcing Business Partner Support tells us why she got involved in the event and adds a bit more context on the week.
“Family Support Week will be held this week, Monday 18th June where information sessions will be held throughout as well as a dress down day & cake sale to raise money for charity! Sessions include topics on: flexible working, maternity/paternity leave, parental leave, childcare vouchers, health & wellbeing, adoption leave, to name a few…
As an active Diversity & Inclusion Champion and a Mental Health & Wellbeing Champion I am very passionate and enthusiastic about supporting my colleagues within Network Rail.
I am a full time single parent so when the Parent Support Group came about, I attended to see whether I could link in with a few individuals, however I gained so much more. Last year I volunteered as the Workstream Lead for the Parent Support Group to actively support working parents at NR to find a healthy work-life balance.
During my time as the workstream lead I have managed to arrange regular coffee catch-ups for individuals where if they are struggling with support they can talk to one another, sign post or even make a new friend. I believe even if there are a handful of individuals we are reaching out to, it makes a huge positive difference to help these individuals come to work and find the work-life balance they need.
Most recently we have rebranded our group as the ‘Family Support Group’ to be more inclusive, to not only target parents but to include Carers, Guardians, Step Parents, Grandparents, etc within our support group. We have collaborated with the D&I team, employee networks and arranged an event called ‘Family Support Week’.
VERCIDA works with over one hundred clients who are committed to creating an inclusive work
