Jacobs Participates in First Ever Mental Health Action Day

Category: Disability (Learning/Mental/Physical)

Mental Health

Jacobs is proud to be a founding partner of Mental Health Action Day, a new movement with a mission to empower people to take action for mental health – no matter where we are in our mental health journey.

It’s safe to say that the past year had a profound effect on how we work and connect with our colleagues. More of us than ever before are thinking and reflecting on our mental health and taking steps to improve it.

Mental Health Action Day

That’s why Jacobs is proud to be a founding partner of Mental Health Action Day, a new movement with a mission to empower people to take action for mental health – no matter where we are in our mental health journey. The first Mental Health Action Day is May 20 and is dedicated to driving mental health awareness and mental health action.

In December 2020, Jacobs launched One Million Lives – a free mental health check-in tool to enhance users' understanding of their current state of mind and provide proactive strategies for personal mental health development. This Mental Health Action Day, we encourage everyone to explore the One Million Lives web app and resources and take a mental health check-in. Since the tool launched, there have been more than 11,000 check-ins.

One Million Lives was born from Jacobs’ continued commitment to mental health as part of our Culture of Caring. One Million Lives founder,  Paul Hendry, Vice President of Health, Safety and Environment, shared his thoughts on the origins of One Million Lives.“ We embarked on a project to elevate and normalize the conversation around mental health,” says Paul. “We wanted to break down the barriers that hinder honest conversations about mental health and encourage an open culture of support.”

One Million Lives asks users a series of questions about sleep, social media use and reactions to stressful situations. After answering the questions, users receive a detailed report with seven key measurements along with coping mechanisms. Data is completely anonymous.

The goal of One Million Lives is to share the check-in tool and resources as widely as possible to help people come together to tackle mental health on a global scale. Developed by Jacobs and clinically endorsed by mental health professionals, the web-based check-in app incorporates the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K10), a globally recognized psychological screening tool.

The free mental health check-in tool is available for download at: app.oml.world (best used with Chrome) and is supported by www.oml.world, which provides mental health and campaign resources including the One Million Lives video, conversation starters and useful resources for more information.

“We have 55,000+ employees, and if they share the tools with five people, then we are well on our way to reaching one million lives,” adds Paul. “If ever a problem was worth coming together to harness our networks and technology, it is this. And the time is now.”

One Million Lives is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any mental health disease or condition. Please seek immediate help from trained medical physicians if you suspect you are suffering from any mental health or other medical condition.
