Jana, Recruitment Business Partner
“Hi, I’m Jana and I’ve been here just over 6 months – long enough to get to know quite a few people here, but unfortunately not long enough to get to know everybody! However, I’m working on it, and I can’t wait to build more friendships here at PA.
“I am the Recruitment Business Partner and I’ve been in recruitment for the past 15 years – mostly in the security and hospitality industries. The Recruitment Team and I do our best to find and recruit the best new talent to join PA Housing and promote the business as an employer of choice.
“In terms of my favourite thing about PA, I’m sure that most of my colleagues will agree that it is the people that make this such an amazing workplace. It is down to who we are as a business, our values, our mission, and vision that attracts likeminded people.
“When I’m not at work, I like to travel, spend time with my family and friends, potter around the garden, or just do nothing. It doesn’t happen very often (not with four children, two cats, and a house to look after), but doing nothing may be up there on the list!”
Lauren, In-House Recruiter
“I’m Lauren and I’m one of the two In-House Recruiters at PA Housing. I work on filling the vacancies for the company and advising managers on our recruiting processes. My aim is to recruit the best people into the organisation. My favourite thing about PA is the people I work with; I have a great team around me!
“When I’m not at work, my life pretty much revolves around my animals. I own a bit of a crazy rescue dog; he has a few quirks that we’re working on, so a lot of time and patience goes into him, but he’s a big softie deep down. I also own an ex-racehorse, and if you’ve known anyone with a horse, they will tell you they take up a lot of time too, but they are both so worth it!
“Another thing that I enjoy doing is watching Disney films – pretty much anything they’ve made. I would recommend one of the latest ones, Encanto, about a family with different magical powers. It’s really good! As for the TV I like, my tastes are a bit odd. I love a good true crime documentary which can be a bit grim and morbid. However, if you want something with more of a feel-good factor, I’d recommend Heartland on Netflix which is about a family on a horse ranch.”
Josh, In-House Recruiter
“Hi, I’m Josh and I am currently in my fifth week here at PA. I’m an In-House Recruiter, so my job is to source the best talent for any available roles within PA Housing. This involves communicating with department heads around the business to create job adverts, then headhunting for the role. When I have found suitable candidates, I will then forward them to the department heads and work to support them during the interview process.
“Whilst I am here, I would like to expand my skillset and progress my career within PA. So far, I like how welcoming everyone has been. People have gone out of their way to introduce themselves to me and have made themselves available whenever I’ve needed anything.
“My two main passions are travel and sport. I often like to combine the two and watch sporting events around the world. In the last few months, I have been to an ice hockey game in Latvia and an Inter Milan vs AS Roma football match at the San Siro in Milan. Recently, I have just finished my yearly rewatch of Parks and Recreation. If you don’t know it, it’s a comedy show on Netflix and its hilarious.”
Ruchika, Recruitment Assistant
“Hello, I’m Ruchika and I’ve been at PA for around 11 months now as a Recruitment Assistant, which is all about the onboarding process. We do pre-employment and compliance checks, issue contracts, and basically make sure we have all the information we need before we can hire new colleagues. The Recruitment Team is the first point of contact with the business for candidates, so we have to make a good impression by being polite, professional, and friendly.
“We also help new starters to get signed up for an occupational health service and ensure that they know everything they need to know before their first day. However, after that, we tend to direct people to the relevant teams.
“There are a lot of things I like about PA – the people I work with, the flexibility of the role so I can do the school run, my work-life balance, and the fact that it’s an organisation that looks after its employees. In that regard, it’s probably the best place I’ve worked for because there are some amazing benefits such as Simplyhealth – which I have used to pay for treatment and prescriptions. My long-term goal is to complete my CIPD Level 5 course, which will help me to progress in my career and move into something like HR.
“Outside of work, I really enjoy cooking, getting the housework done, and going out for meals with my friends and family. I also like taking my kids out to places such as soft play areas. Other than that, I love watching series on Netflix. I would recommend Maids as I really relate to the main character and what she goes through bringing up her children. However, the best series I have watched on there is How to Get Away with Murder – I finished 3 seasons of it in 2 weeks!”
Paulina, Recruitment Assistant
“Hi, I’m Paulina and I joined PA Housing 6 months ago as a Recruitment Assistant. My role concerns anything onboarding related. Once offers are made to candidates, they will be approached by me or my colleague Ruchika to signpost them through the onboarding process. I liaise with candidates to obtain all the documents we need to legally employ them, so it’s a lot to keep in mind!
“After the candidate joins PA, I send the relevant documents to our Payroll Team, so they’re processed in time for payday. Although I have previous experience in sourcing as a recruiter, I joined PA to give myself an in-depth understanding of the entire recruitment process. So far, I’ve been achieving my goal!
“My favourite thing about PA is the people. It may sound like a cliché when working alongside the HR team, but I think it makes sense! I love interacting with candidates, hiring managers, and anyone who pops down to the HR corner. Being able to help people get jobs that they are passionate about is very rewarding. PA have allowed me to take on new responsibilities and grow, which has developed my confidence in and outside of work. It’s a very welcoming company and a great place to be.
“Outside of work, I’m a bit of a geek. I love watching films, playing video games, board games, tabletop games, and I also tend to deeply overanalyse the music I listen to. I also have three guinea pigs that take a lot of my attention. I’ve recently seen The Northman and Marvel’s Dr Strange in the Multiverse of Madness at the cinema. They are totally different, but I’d recommend both. The Northman is a dark, gritty Viking story that feels very Shakespearian, and Dr Strange is great for people who are nostalgic about Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man. I’ve also been rewatching Game of Thrones (Series 1-7, we don’t talk about Series 8). After Game of Thrones, Wheel of Time on Amazon Prime is a great next watch.”
