LSBU: ‘Love to Learn, Learn to Love’ Campaign 2017 for LGBT’s

LSBU (London South Bank University) continues to show its support for the LGBT+ community by launching the ‘Love to Learn, Learn to Love’ campaign as the Pride 2017 Festivals are well underway in London. The campaign advocates the rights of the LGBT+ community not just within the University, but also as a part of the wider community.

LSBU has championed the rights of the LGBT+ community in numerous ways, such as participating in thPride parade for 5 years, along with getting recognition as a Stonewall Top 100 employer and maintaining their active sexual orientation and gender identity staff network, SONET. Also, SONET is one of the members of the wider Southwark LGBT Network.

By launching a dedicated campaign, ‘Love to Learn, Learn to Love’, the University has taken its support and commitment a step further. This campaign acknowledges the important role played by universities of being at the forefront of the broader endeavour to embrace diversity and equality.

Ian Mehrtens, the Chief Operation Officer of LSBU, said that the campaign is built on the theme of Pride 2017, ‘Love Happens Here’. He says that the campaign brings together LSBU’s two integral focus areas. Mehrtens goes on to explain that at LSBU, they not only have a commitment to learning, but they also pride themselves on their excellence in teaching, at every step of teaching, their aim is to foster an environment for their students that is both exciting and engaging.

However, he believes that teaching and learning is only one part of university life. LSBU wants to educate their students, who belong to diverse backgrounds and cultures on important issues that are going on in today’s society. They want to be able to create a learning experience that is more than engaging and exciting. LSBU aims for an environment that is supportive and accessible to all and particularly, the LGBT+ community.

The ‘Love to Learn, Learn to Love’ campaign has come from the University’s keen interest in developing a learning environment where all students are able to be themselves and realise their full potential. They hope that when people think about LSBU, they think of the university’s commitment towards commemorating diversity and equality.

The campaign is going to include dedicated Snapchat filters and bus side banners during the 2017 Pride Festivals. There will also be other events on campus, as well as online.
