Women in technical roles across the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) have shared why they are proud of their work in support of WISE’s new campaign.
WISE supports the participation, contribution and success of women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) roles. This year the organisation launched their 1 of the Million campaign, celebrating the important work carried out by women in STEM. The campaign asks people why they’re proud to be one of the million women in this sector.
The IPO’s contributors include people like Anne, Annabelle and Ella, who work in the office’s Patents directorate. Patent examiners are at the forefront innovation, ensuring high quality, valid patents are granted. Patent examining offers an unusual opportunity for scientists and engineers to combine their scientific and technical knowledge with new legal skills. The office deals with a wide range of subject matter, from chemical compounds to smartphones. Where possible, the office tries to allow each examiner to work in areas appropriate to their qualifications and interests.
The IPO’s contribution to WISE’s campaign have included women in information technology roles, like Claire and Emma. The office is encouraging more women to apply for IT positions and has recently opened applications for its next round of IT apprenticeship roles. The IPO works in partnership with Acorn Learning Solutions to run apprenticeship schemes in Business Administration, Finance and IT. You can find out more and apply here for the Level 4 IT apprenticeship or here for the IT Degree apprenticeship.
