The month of November was set up to acknowledge the impact that contemporary and historic role models have on our lives. Individuals chosen for recognition may include celebrities, historic figures, relatives, friends, colleagues and associates. Here at VERCIDA we decided to take this opportunity to highlight and to celebrate diverse role models that we have been inspired by.
Role models are highly important for us psychologically, helping to guide us through life during our development, to make important decisions that affect the outcome of our lives, and to help us find happiness in later life by providing a reference point to work towards.
When we are growing within our career, we look to our role models for inspiration and use this as a blueprint on how to behave. Interestingly, this is likely to be an evolutionary survival function designed to help us to mimic the traits of successful members of our society.
Having the correct role model will ensure that we learn to be successful in later life and further in our career, therefore it goes without saying that it's important to get the right one for yourself.
We couldn't think of a better starting point that sharing with you the winners of the Positive Role Models at the National Diversity Awards 2013. So click here to read their stories, get inspired, and see where it takes you!
