Career Break

Do you want to grow and succeed in your life? Well, truthfully speaking, you will achieve that only and only if you take a break from your pre-occupations and reassess your life. You need to allocate a little more time to yourself. It is time to pause, take a break from your mainstream job, and focus on your personal goals.

You don’t know where to start? Fine! Here are 5 simple tips for success that will lead you to your goals.

Go on a vacation

Working in the same office for 9 hours, six days a week- sometimes seven, means that you are constantly around the same people year in, year out. In the end, your mindset, your aspirations, and your life, in general, become intertwined with the lives of your colleagues. You always think of the company’s success, forgetting that you have a life of your own.

Taking a break from that routine and finding a new challenge in new surroundings- new cultures, even- is vital to your personal success. It opens your mind and helps you to see life from a broader perspective.

A change in environment can have an unimaginable impact on your success trajectory. Taking a trip somewhere, for example, taking a London free walking tour, can help you develop a global perspective. When you eventually come back home, you will bring with you tons of real-life experiences; lessons that make you invaluable not only to your employer but also to you as an individual.

Take a self-evaluation

What is your personal and professional capacity? Where do you stand vis-à-vis where you would love to be? Do you have what it takes to be more successful and effective? Take a break and ask yourself these self-evaluation questions. As you will come to learn, this is a key step towards becoming successful.

Knowing the space between you and your success will help you budget your time, your resources, and your energy. How you use your time, for example, determines whether or not you will have any time left in a day to focus on yourself. Most people leave the office for home at 5 in the evening, spend a couple of hours idling in a bar or doing totally unproductive things, and then end up doing nothing meaningful when they get home. That’s why they spend their entire lives assisting their CEO to accomplish his/her dream. Don’t be like those people.

A session of serious self-evaluation will help you track your activities throughout the day or week. You are able to know which unnecessary expenditures you need to cut off, which is time-consuming but non-priority activities you should quit doing, and the weaknesses you need to address or improve on. As the saying goes, self-evaluation leads to self-evolution.

Learn to say “NO” when necessary

Humans are social beings by nature, and that’s why most of our decisions are influenced by the people around us. But even as we acknowledge that fact, we must also acknowledge that it is not a must that we are liked by everyone. Some decisions we make will rub our associates the wrong way, but we need to make them in order to grow. It is time you took stock of your life and the workload you have per day. If there is anything you are doing which is not beneficial to you, something that you do so that others can perceive you favorably, drop it ASAP!

Did you know that your established impression of being a helpful and resourceful person could be derailing your progress? Well, it could be that you aren’t able to accomplish your set goals because you have been giving people unwarranted gratuities, favors, and privileges. Start saying NO when necessary in order to start making a meaningful step towards success. You have the right to choose your priorities over helping others.

Get a mentor

A mentor can be a friend, a family member, a colleague at work, or a life coach. You need to get someone who is hyper-focused on making you as well as you can be. He/she will partner in your success and motivate you at every step of the way. A life coach, for example, will focus on helping you make positive changes in your personal and professional life, culminating in your personal and professional success. What’s more, an experienced coach will challenge you to do more than the bare minimum; to start a side hustle or enroll in an evening class- To go beyond your regular job.

Get your goals right

You will only attain success after understanding exactly what it means to you. Remember that your success is different from everyone else’s. Maybe everyone in your office works hard for a promotion, so you have also jumped onto that bandwagon. What you probably don’t know is that you could be more successful if you focused on changing your career instead. Take a break and think about your own goals. Don’t copy other people’s goals.
