Global banking leader, Santander, is offering graduates a chance to work for an ethical bank, according to one of its graduates.
The banking sector's reputation among students and graduates has come under serious scrutiny in recent years, but Santander represents a fair option for graduates, according to one of its employees.
Carl Robson, a graduate from Durham University, joined Santander in 2012 on the Technology & Operations graduate scheme . He says the respectable nature of the bank appealed to him.
"What first attracted me to Santander was the company image," he says. "I didn't want to work for a company that I, or other people, perceived as not being a fair bank. When reading up on the roles available, it was the rotational aspect of the graduate programme that appealed to me and encouraged me to apply."
The bank has recently launched their range of Graduate Schemes for university leavers interested in pursuing a career in ethical banking. Carl says Santander offers a welcoming environment for new employees.
"I feel that everyone here has a shared mentality and friendly attitude," he says. "Colleagues of all seniority are happy to talk to you and people are always happy to help. This is a rarity for such a large organisation."
Liana Schiesaro, another graduate who works in retail banking, says applicants should be prepared to work in a rapidly changing environment.
"Although I was told that Santander was a fast-paced organisation, I was not quite expecting how fast everything did actually move and change," she says.
"It can be a challenge at times working in a branch environment, as you really have to manage your time effectively in order to be able to do all of your non-customer facing tasks, as well as serving customers throughout the day."
Santander has openings on a range of graduate schemes and internships. Graduates interested in the bank's progressive attitude and commitment to ethical practices should take a look at what Santander has to offer.
