Find out how PwC is getting involved with London Pride 2017

a PwC London Pride advert on the London Underground, which reads 'I've never had to hide the woman I love from my colleagues, they make me feel like it makes no difference.'

GLEE@PwC (Gays, Lesbians and Everyone Else) is PwC’s LGBT network, unlike many other company network groups, it is not just for PwC employees but for everyone else as well. The network gives members the chance to get involved in fantastic business networking opportunities, knowledge sharing and personal and professional development; all focused around a deep value and respect for the diversity the of views, needs and aspirations of its members.

On the 8th July, over a million people will line the streets of London to celebrate the LGBT+ community, with tens of thousands taking part in the annual parade. The event is now one of the largest Pride celebrations worldwide and it is amongst the biggest annual event in London. PwC will be represented by a number of their people, who will be proudly walking the Pride route to show their commitment to being inclusive of the LGBT+ community. They will be joined by various other companies, groups and individuals who will also be filling London’s main streets with colour and fun.

This is the first year that PwC are major sponsors of Pride in London, they are the only silver sponsor for this year’s event and are very excited to be involved in the celebrations. In addition to their sponsorship of the event and their involvement in the London Pride parade, PwC will also appear in this year’s Pride parade in both Leeds and Belfast and took part in Birmingham Pride earlier on in the year; showing their commitment to the values that are at the heart of Pride.

PwC believe that the values of Pride are closely aligned with their own and that, as well as being the right thing to do, getting involved with Pride also makes good business sense. It will create benefits that will flow through to their people, clients and result in success within the firm. PwC are focused on inclusivity, both individually and collectively; it is at the heart of their organisation and they aim to deliver on their commitment - “To build trust in society and solve important problems”.

Large organisations can often be perceived as faceless; PwC aims to break down this perception by getting involved in events, such as London Pride, to show that they are a group of individuals who are living and working in diverse communities that wish to represent the external demographic. This can be achieved by embracing inclusion within the organisation and celebrating diversity. PwC believe that London Pride and other events that celebrate diversity are important for individuals and organisations to get involved in as they show their support for important causes.

PwC have been showing their support for London Pride in the run-up to the event by posting what they have been doing on their social media accounts. Their involvement in Pride demonstrates their commitment to being inclusive and developing a working environment where all differences are valued. This determination to build an inclusive workplace is embedded in their people strategy; they aim to empower their staff to be the best that they can be and realise their full potential. PwC regognises that individuals can only reach this potential when they feel comfortable with being their full-self at work.

If people feel that they are able to be their full-self in the workplace, by being open about who they are in their personal lives, then they are likely to be much happier at work. This is beneficial to both the employees and the business, as happy employees are much more productive, engaged and more likely to go the extra mile, whether it’s for their employer or their clients. Therefore, improving the relationships that exist between PwC, its employees and its clients.

In addition to the above benefits of a diverse and inclusive workforce, a diverse group of employees can bring new views and perspectives to a company that they can use to make better decisions. Inclusion brings more vibrant teams together to work, debate and create solutions in ways that they might otherwise have not been able to do. These things can directly benefit clients by solving issues that they might have and by thinking ahead, therefore creating a forward-looking business.

It is clear to see that there are many benefits to having a diverse and inclusive workforce, for both employees and organisations. PwC is working to ensure that their workforce is representative of the communities that they work within. They can see that this will allow them to make better decisions and allow their employees to reach their full potential, also enabling them to connect more deeply with their communities and strengthen the trust that they rely on within the society.

PwC being involved in Pride is not just the right thing to do for them, it is so much more than that. They are proud to be celebrating and supporting the LGBT+ community and look forward to London Pride!
