Network Rail celebrates everyone with ‘Everyone Matters Week’

Every year Network Rail holds everyone matters week. During this week, we recognise and promote diversity and inclusion for our people and passengers by organising national and local events as well as team discussions across our business.

Everyone matters week leads into the activities we do throughout the year under our diversity and inclusion strategy ‘Everyone Matters’, focusing on the 9 protected characteristics. It provides an opportunity to raise awareness of the relevance, diversity and inclusion to Network rail, our industry and the passengers we serve up and down the country.


Everyone matters week will start with an organisational wide Everyone Matters Conference on 28th September where Andrew Haines, Network Rails, chief executive will open the event. The event will involve cross-industry discussions; learning more about specific aspects of diversity and inclusion and sharing stories. Throughout the week there will be a wide range of talks, virtual events and discussions across the business from webinars on hidden disabilities and the history of pride, to name just a few.

In addition to sessions focused on reasonable adjustments and the everyone matters strategy, attendees can learn more about topics such as Black British LGBT heroes, flexible working, and being an ally, leadership, as well as mental health and well-being.

Meanwhile, everyone matters week highlights our ongoing efforts to provide opportunities for under-represented groups to experience working at Network Rail, and to arrange school visits to promote careers at Network Rail and to learn more about how to collaborate further with the rail industry.


Did you know Network Rail have six employee networks? They provide support and opportunities to approximately 3,000 members and contribute to making Network Rail a more open, inclusive and diverse organisation.

Our employee networks give members wide-ranging advice and promote important issues through national and local events. Furthermore, they work with us to improve communication around the business and develop valuable guidance on diversity and inclusion. Find out more
