Thank you to #TeamEA staff at Skills London
Skills London 2018 was a great success!
An enormous thank you to all who helped build and staff the stand on the 23 and 24 November 2018.
Our stand, featuring an incident command vehicle, drone and Lego model was visited by thousands of visitors - the event itself had over 35,000 people through the doors! We were thrilled to win the 'Best Interactive Large Stand' award; an achievement that reflects the passion and experience of each and every member of our staff that helped support our agency's stand.
Meeting the future generation of EA Staff
We had a bigger stand, took steps to act earlier to encourage and inspire our future workforce by discussing our apprenticeship offer, and we were more visible with an incident command vehicle, sand bags, drones, pumps and much more…but the most important feature of the stand was our staff!
The event is a key part of our outreach programme, to support inspiring our future workforce and raising the profile of the organisation by educating the attendees about who we are and what we do. Staff on the stand brought passion, knowledge and experience, and are what made the stand so engaging!
As a result of the event we have been invited to go out and speak with local schools / colleges / Universities directly and help to further improve the amazing reputation we already have as an inclusive and diverse employer.
"Apprenticeships" – the buzz word of the exhibition
“What is your apprenticeship programme?” The most frequently asked question at the show. We offer a comprehensive apprenticeship programme – offering opportunities for current staff to develop themselves in their current roles as part of their Learning Plans and also as part of our recruitment strategy to attract new staff to join the organisation as "apprentices".
How our Senior Leaders viewed the event
Sir James Bevan Chief Executive
“It was clearly a great stand and a great day. Well done to you and everyone on #Team EA.”
You all managed to create the culture of the EA in a space no bigger than 6 by 6 meters. The interactive stations, from the Lego flood village to the incident command vehicle to the drone operator were all top notch - I was delighted, but not surprised to see that you won the Skills London 2018 award for most interactive stand - I’m sure the 35,000 or so visitors would agree.
However, no matter how good or interactive the stand was, it was the colleagues leading the day that made both my day and the event itself. Everyone involved, from yourself and the organisers, to those who turned up to help, are leaders of the finest EA calibre. You all brought to life not just what the EA does, but far more importantly, what it feels like to be a part of the EA. Everyone who stopped by our stand on those two days, no matter what they did or saw or who they spoke to, will have gone away with a little bit of that feeling... That feeling that maybe one day, if they come to work for the EA, they will not only make a real difference to the environment and the lives of those that live in it, but also to their lives too.
Full steam ahead for Skills London 2019!
