Skip to main contentA youth group for D/deaf people and their friends has been nominated for a national award.
Youth Vibe, which is run by Cheshire-based charity Deafness Support Network, has celebrated after being pitted against nationally renowned youth clubs and organisations in a bid to win The Children’s and Young People Charity Award 2019.
Hannah Nicoll, youth service manager said: “The shortlisting itself is a great stamp of recognition for us in promoting our work and the wider work of DSN at a national level. We are extremely proud of the whole team and of course, all our young people that make Youth Vibe what it is today.”
Youth Vibe hold weekly sessions for young people linked to deafness, they may be D/deaf or hearing impaired themselves, friends, siblings, or Children of Deaf Adults (CODA’s). They have groups in Northwich, Chester and Crewe and aim to promote inclusivity, independence, support and social activities for those who attend.
Youth Vibe will now go up against the likes of CLIC Sargeant, Hull and East Yorkshire Children’s University and Wigan Youth Zone, among others.
Despite the final decision being down to the judges which include representatives from Ofsted and Children England, and not a public vote, Hannah and the DSN team are confident Youth Vibe has made an impressive mark already.
“We are incredibly proud of what Youth Vibe has achieved with limited budgets and big imaginations," said Hannah. "This year alone we’ve taught the public how to sign, taken part in a swimathon to help another charity and some of our young people have achieved their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. The skies the limit for each and every member of Youth Vibe and we just hope their hard work and dedication is recognised in this fantastic award.”
