Skip to main contentDiversity represents one of the ways a firm can build their employer brand and move towards a more multi-cultural work environment.
The issue of diversity in the workplace was just one of the many topics discussed at the HR Grapevine event, which took place last Thursday.
Jaspar Hardinge, Account Executive at AON stated that in the current climate, diversity connected to employee engagement makes a lot of sense because employees can feel more comfortable if a company is diverse and has a culture of inclusion.
Speaking exclusively to HR Grapevine, Hardinge said: “Socio-economic trends right now, globally, demand that work places be more diverse. I think that the competition for obtaining talent is very fierce right now so you have to have the appropriate benefits structure.
“In addition to this, you must have a strong leadership and mentorship programme to address all the different cultures, and all the different diversities within an organisation so I think it’s very much integral to the health of the business to be diverse,” he explained.
Tim King, HR Account Manager at Shell, believes that diversity can help to improve employer brand but organisations must search in the right places.
He said: “I think in order to recruit a diverse workforce, you’ve got to know where are the best places to go to get a diverse talent, the right type of talent for the different parts of the businesses that you need to recruit people for.
“In Shell we’re actively driving towards improving our diversity quotas, whether it’s Asian talent, female talent, or any of the areas that we’re looking to be better than we are,” he said.
