Department for Transport short-listed for the enei Awards 2015

The Department for Transport (DfT) were short-listed for the enei Awards 2015.

The Department for Transport is a ministerial department working with agencies and partners to deliver and support a transport network that keeps the UK moving and which is an engine for economic growth.

Shortlisted for:

● Tapping into Talent Award - for the equality initiatives pioneered by the DfT’s BAME Network, the Positive Support Group (PSG). Initiatives include the Senior Civil Service Preparation Programme which focuses on one key development area for the Senior Civil Service – the ability to marshal an argument and present it in a compelling way. The PSG supports other Whitehall BAME networks in rolling out the programme in their departments.

● Employee Network Group of the Year Award – PSG, DFT’s BAME Network, represents the interests of BAME staff. They work with senior management to build a department where equity and equality of opportunities exists for all. PSG fulfils a strong leadership role through its involvement with the Civil Service Race Forum. A major achievement has been securing an agreement that each department will agree a new ‘business deal’ with their employee networks that recognises the valuable contributions made in advancing the interests of under-represented groups.

● Employee Network Group of the Year Award - (Ability) Ability is the DfT’s disability staff Network group for disabled employees which provide supports for disabled employees and raises disability awareness in general. The network has campaigned for improvements in DfT such as redesigning the staff reception in order to make it more amenable for disabled employees, installing clearer signage to assist visually impaired staff and renegotiating the employee assistance package.

● Equality and Inclusion Champion of the Year- Steve Gooding, Director General at the Department for Transport (DfT) was nominated for his work over the past four years as the DfT’s Champion of the Positive Support Group (PSG) staff Network. He acts as a positive change agent, role-modelling inclusive behaviours, providing a visible commitment to equality and diversity and sponsoring and supporting the network.
