DCMS recruited 1020 new starters into the department last year. They are aiming to be the most diverse and inclusive government department by 2025. One of the ways they have identified to do that is to make sure they are recruiting people in an inclusive way - bringing the best people into the department and helping them to feel welcome when they arrive.
With that ambition in mind, the DCMS Recruitment Team have taken over their intranet this month to educate the department on all things recruitment and specifically, how important it is to recruit in an inclusive manner.
One of the key pieces of content they produced this month was a video on ‘Top Tips to run an inclusive recruitment campaign’. The importance of having a diverse interview panel was emphasised, alongside the need to complete all mandatory training. DCMS mandatory training includes insight into key concepts like unconscious bias and how to ensure it doesn’t impact upon decision making, and training on disability awareness and how to ensure reasonable adjustments are supported to enable candidates to perform at their best.
They also launched a new recruitment scheme titled the ‘Great Place to work for Veterans’, aimed at supporting Veterans achieve sustainable employment in the Civil Service when they leave Her Majesty’s Armed Forces.
Additionally, the team are running workshops for all employees at DCMS on ‘Inclusive Interview Practice’ amongst other topics.
As demonstrated, DCMS are committed to educating the department to become confident interviewers, conscious of recruiting in an inclusive manner.
