Build + Thrive gives young DCH customers the opportunity to learn construction related skills through a process of training, volunteering, housing and employment. The project gives these young people the chance to learn and develop their skills alongside other young people with the same passion, drive and commitment. The aim of the programme is to provide training and employment for these young people, at the end of the scheme they will have the chance to move into the refurbished shared property that they would have worked on during the project or to alternative young people’s DCH accommodation.
DCH is working with Shekinah, mi-Space and Building Plymouth (Plymouth City Council) to create a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the young DCH customers who are involved in this programme. They will gain valuable construction related skills that will open doors for many of them and introduce them to what a career in construction could look like for them. The opportunity for the young people to move into the house at the end of the programme is a big driver for them as they are working towards something that they will be able to reap the benefits of. The remaining young people on the scheme will be offered a place in shared accommodation housing, a step towards independence for many of them.
The project will focus on the strengths of the young people who are taking part in it and it will work with the young people to enhance their existing strengths and empower them to make changes for themselves. The young people on the programme will be committed to pursuing a career that’s related to construction as DCH will provide them with an accredited training provision in construction skills. The young people will have support from a coach who will support them in identifying what is working well or not so well for them and how they can approach employment, education or training.
If you are 18-25, can commit to at least eight weeks of training and are interested in this amazing opportunity to work towards a construction-related career. Please click here to find out more about Build + Thrive.
