Teams at Devon and Cornwall Housing Association (DCH) have worked with one of their customers, Mrs Renfree to adapt her kitchen in order to better suit her needs and to ensure that she can continue to live independently. This is just one example of the great work that DCH continues to do for its customers. DCH maintains and manages over 22,882 great places to live and are investing in more all the time.
DCH are determined to provide homes that people can afford to live in, and that they want to live in. They aim to ensure that people have a home that they can be proud of and there is a focus on not just the roof that is over someone’s head but also the opportunities that are in the area around them. DCH looks to build communities as well as homes. DCH are supported by a team of over 850 motivated and enthusiastic staff, that work together in order to deliver services that can make a huge difference to the individuals, families and communities across Devon and Cornwall.
One of DCH’s customers, Mrs Renfree was due to have a new kitchen fitted in her home in Marazion, Cornwall. However, she was admitted to hospital due to illness during this time and was unavaliable for the work to be carried out in her home. DCH staff realised that the proposed kitchen design would no longer suit the personal needs of Mrs Renfree due to her limited mobility. The kitchen required special adaptations and as a result, the standard worktop height would restrict her capability to make her own drinks. Therefore, it was decided that she would benefit from the installation of a lower worksurface.
The DCH repairs team worked with Mrs Renfree and her occupational therapist in order to adapt the kitchen in order to better suit her needs and ensure that she can continue to live independently in her own home.
Cheryl Pascoe, Home Improvement Project Manager said: “Being able to adapt the kitchen for Mrs Renfree has made both me and the Minor Works team proud of the service we provide.''
Mrs Renfree, DCH customer said: “My new kitchen is wonderful and the personal alterations are perfect”.
