Craig scoops prestigious award for DVLA

On 23 January 2018, Craig Prescott, Head of Business Finance Support at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), won ‘Leader of the Year’ at the Government Finance Awards.

An annual event, the Government Finance conference supports the Government’s programme of reforms, aimed at placing the finance function at the heart of decision making. The awards specifically recognise individuals and teams for their excellent work over the year.

Craig was nominated for his work leading the DVLA’s Business Finance Support team. He joined the Civil Service in 2016 and hit the ground running, quickly familiarising himself with the specifics of public sector accounting and embracing his new role as Head of Business Finance Support across DVLA.

Establishing the business partnering function in Finance, Craig raised the bar to a high level, driving positive changes to the whole way the business partnering process works. He made it consistent where necessary across directorates with a standardised reporting tool.

Exploiting the wealth of experience he gained in previous roles across the private sector. Craig is now the ‘go to’ contact for senior managers across DVLA, having quickly established himself as a trusted advisor.

Mike Driver, Head of Government Finance Function, commented that Craig’s award was ‘a fantastic achievement, particularly given the strength of competition, with over 90 nominations from all departments.’

The judging panel were very impressed with Craig and felt that his example should be shared with the rest of the Government Finance Function.
