As part of our inclusion and community engagement strategy to build an inclusive working environment, the CPS has again sponsored a popular legal award that celebrates diversity in the legal profession.
Chief Crown Prosecutor for Thames and Chiltern, Jaswant Narwal, represented the CPS at the 24th Annual Asian Legal Awards. She presented the Criminal Lawyer Award 2018 to winner Imran Khan QC from Imran Khan and Partners.
The CPS has sponsored the Asian Legal Awards for three years. As well as sponsoring the Criminal Lawyer Award category, we previously sponsored the Rising Star Award. The event, organised by the Society of Asian Lawyers, promotes and celebrates the achievements of Asian lawyers.
Jaswant said: “I’m really pleased the CPS sponsored this award as it has helped us raise our profile to a wide and diverse audience. It has also helped enormously to encourage and attract lawyers and legal trainees from diverse backgrounds including ethnic and social mobility - in fact we have seen an increase in the number of applications from such backgrounds.”
Ranjit Sond, President, Society of Asian Lawyers, thanked the CPS for our continued support. He said, “2018 was the third consecutive year that the CPS has sponsored an award promoting and celebrating legal excellence within the Asian legal community. It is very important that both organisations continue to work together in promoting diversity within the legal profession. A fully diverse legal profession which represents the wider society, is a profession properly equipped to serve the community.”
