International Women’s Day 2019

International Women's Day 2019 is 8 March and this year’s campaign theme is #BalanceforBetter which is about creating a more gender-balanced world.

Balance is not a women's issue, it's a business issue and in the CPS we have a really good story to tell with 65% of our workforce being women, who are in many different roles across the organisation contributing to the delivery of justice.

Last year we participated in a number of events, including our first conference on menopause which discussed the best ways of supporting women who may experience symptoms at work. This received extremely positive feedback.  Activities and events we participated in last year sought to celebrate their hard work and encourage continued development. This year we have a number of activities/events planned which include;

We continue our work with partners on the Employers’ Initiative on Domestic Abuse (EIDA) to support any employees who may experience this. Women’s Aid are also supporting International Women’s Day in this regard.

We continue to explore ways to make the workplace as flexible as possible through smarter working and flexible working approaches.

As usual, we are also promoting upcoming events which currently include; Women into Leadership Conference which is now in its tenth year; and the Women in Law Summit, which will take place on 17 May 2019 in London which offers a set of career and personal development workshops and inspiring keynote presentations (including one from our very own Grace Ononiwu, CCP West Midlands). Our own Muslim Staff Network are hosting an event in March which will feature a panel discussion from a diverse range of inspirational Muslim women of colour and aims to inspire, motivate, educate and empower women from all backgrounds and faiths.
