We're talking to Zain, our community wellbeing manager. Zain will be managing Amblers Orchard; our apartments for the over 55s, just outside Leeds, with a focus on independent living.
Tell me a bit about yourself...
I was born and raised in sunny Bradford. I’ve worked in the housing sector for around six years now. I joined the sector after graduating from university and gaining a degree in psychology…. And yes, I can read minds.
What attracted you most about joining Home Group?
I was at the point in my career where I needed a change. I was attracted to the community and wellbeing role at Amblers Orchard. Before applying for the role, I researched Home Group and straight away was drawn in by the organisation’s values and the amazing work they do in their communities. What I love most about the organisation though, is how caring they are towards their employees.
What are you most looking forward to?
I’m looking forward to the grand opening of Amblers Orchard and meeting my team face to face. I’ve been fortunate enough to have recruited an amazing group of colleagues, however, the recruitment process and all contact so far has been virtual. It will be lovely to be able to meet them all in person.
What do you think will be the most exciting bit of the job?
I think Amblers Orchard has the potential to make a massive positive impact in the community of East Ardsley/Tingley. Of course, the priority of the service is to improve the lives of our residents by supporting them to be as independent as possible. However, I believe the service can have an even bigger impact and become a pillar for the wider community.
Where do you think the most challenges will be?
As with any new service, I expect there may be some teething issues, but I am very confident in the team we have recruited to deliver an A-Class service. For me personally, this is my first role in managing a team and/or service. It is very much a challenge I have thus far enjoyed and I hope to continue to improve and become the best leader possible.
How do you keep busy in your spare time?
I single-handedly keep organisations like Just Eat and Uber Eats in business. I LOVE to eat. In between meals I like to keep active, playing Rugby League and five-a-side football. And at night, rather than go to sleep like a responsible adult, I play on my Playstation.
If you could be a superhero, which one would you be?
I’d love to be able to control and read minds like Professor X from the X-men. I don’t know if I’m responsible enough for that kind of power though…
