Welcome to VERCIDA website.
Skip to main contentFinding and settling into a new job is always a challenge. For people with bipolar this is often even more daunting.
There is the stress of the job search and the uncertainly of how new employers will respond if told that you suffer from the condition. In most cases a bipolar diagnoses does not impact on a person's ability to do a job, however, the illness is classed as a disability and focusing on companies that have a strong diversity policy is important.
When I made the decision to change the direction of my career I discovered that the Bipolar UK charity has a telephone-based mentoring service, to give guidance on employment issues. You can get support and advice throughout the recruitment process, including when and how to disclose the illness to your new employer. They also have support groups where you can discuss issues with other people who may have been in a similar position.
I found the advice I received valuable in informing me about how I should approach the whole job search process and it gave me a boost of confidence in knowing that many employers do focus on diversity. If you have bipolar and are in a similar position, I would recommend contacting Bipolar UK.
Their employment support service is being relaunched and the new service will be in operation from 11 April. The telephone number is 0333 323 1960. Also see www.bipolaruk.org/Pages/Category/mentoring
