Pride Talks 2022 will address a number of topics including Active Allyship and a panel discussion about homophobia as well as Pride Month celebrations through music.
When I first joined Capgemini in October, it didn’t initially cross my mind to get involved in the LGBTQ+ network. However, during the induction my intake got to meet Tom Dodson, the chair of OUTFront our LGBTQ+ network. He explained the network, what was happening in the community and what the possibilities were. I was intrigued and excited to be involved.
After meeting with a few people I felt inspired to join OUTfront. I volunteered to record a podcast for LGBT history month to reflect on my experience of being gay and living internationally. It was my first time being involved in anything like that and it felt really rewarding to share my experience to a large audience.
Most recently I was involved in the National Student Pride event taking place on the 22nd of February, the largest LGBTQ+ career fair in the UK. With a few others we went to Westminster University to represent Capgemini. I was able to share my experience as a Capgemini graduate and explain to future candidates what they could expect from the recruitment process and life as a Capgemini consultant. The event also allowed us to network with representatives from other companies and organisations from all over the UK. The event was not only about career prospects and networking, it was also a great day to celebrate and discuss our community as a whole including talks, podcasts and activities.
Working for a large company means I don’t always get to meet people from different parts of the business. Student Pride was a fantastic chance to bring people together and for me to meet amazing people from another office that I wouldn’t have met under any other circumstances.
Capgemini is a great place to work, whether you are part of the LGBTQ+ community or not. Joining OUTFront for me was a way of making an impact. We are lucky to live in a country where being gay is generally accepted and legal but that doesn’t mean there is no more work to do for the community.
So far, it has been a great experience to be part of OUTfront at Capgemini. There is more to come, join us.
