Times Top 50 Employers for Women 2021

The Times Top 50 Employers for Women list celebrates UK employers that make gender equality part of their business strategy and are working to bring it to life at all levels of the organisation.

Run by the charity Business in the Community – The Prince’s Responsible Business Network – for more than a decade, the Times Top 50 Employers for Women is the UK’s most highly profiled and well-established listing of employers striving for gender equality in the workplace. The incredibly competitive process assesses organisations on a range of areas, including their approach to recruitment, family friendly policies and how they have championed gender equality in the context of the pandemic.

Here at Capgemini UK, we know that gender equality and inclusion is critical to our success – it underpins our people’s experience at work, it’s integral to building relationships with our clients, and is absolutely key to innovating for the sustainable and inclusive future that we want. In 2020, together, we showed resilience and agility; we are proud to have continued to drive our gender and inclusion strategy throughout the business uncertainty, listening and engaging to mitigate the longer-term impact of the pandemic on our people.

In these different circumstances over the last year, we continued and adapted our work:

  • Ensuring our people feel connected and supported throughout working remotely, especially women coping with caring responsibilities, educational disruption, isolation.
  • Uniting our local gender networks together in [email protected] – chaired by one of our Vice Presidents and empowering our communities to support each other, extend event invitations and celebrate individual and collective successes.
  • Recognising that we are all guests in each other’s homes – fostering respect and empathy through communications sharing individual stories, underpinned by the principles of our Homeworking charter.
  • Focusing on physical and mental wellbeing – providing support, fostering empowerment to work in a sustainable way; especially through Time4You – our series of virtual events on everything from, parenting, women’s health, fitness to favourite records, empowering people to take time out for themselves.
  • Ensuring our recruitment approach is inclusive through actions such as balanced shortlists, advertising roles on diverse hiring job boards, updated hiring manager training.
  • Keeping gender balance a focus when succession planning for all key leadership roles.
  • Continuing our programme of targeted mentoring opportunities for women.
  • Providing opportunities to grow personal networks through virtual events and motivate through inspirational speakers.
  • Sharing the stories and brilliant work of our female role models internally and externally.

Paul Margetts, Managing Director at Capgemini UK, said: “I’m delighted that we have been recognised by Business in the Community in the ‘The Times Top 50 Employers for Women’ for the fifth year running, and especially during the challenges of COVID-19. It reflects our commitment – with Active Inclusion and our people at the heart of our business – to continue to build a better “new normal” in the technology industry for all to feel included, work and thrive.”

Charlotte Woodworth, Gender Equality Director at Business in the Community said: “COVID-19 has shone a light on how far we have to go on gender equality: by having to pick up things like the bulk of extra caring responsibilities, women have been disproportionately affected by lockdown. We congratulate the many employers who have maintained their efforts towards gender equality at this time, often introducing innovative policies to support their workforce during this period. This year’s application process for The Times Top 50 Employers for Women was the most competitive one we have seen in five years. Employers like Capgemini UK haven’t forgotten women at work and they are committed to making gender inequality a thing of the past.”
