Cambridge Assessment has won the SAP Hana award!

A charity which helps disadvantaged young people in India is set to benefit from a technology prize awarded to Cambridge Assessment.

Hope Foundation was chosen by the Group as a recipient for its $3,000 prize in the SAP Hana Innovation Awards. Cambridge Assessment was awarded second place at a ceremony in Orlando, Florida. The award recognises its innovative approach to using the technology to perform the millions of calculations required to determine results from assessments.

Cambridge Assessment began using SAP for its finance and procurement activities in 2012. In 2014 it migrated its first assessment onto SAP – Young Learners English. This year it will be migrating the next wave of products onto SAP for exam processing. The Group’s goal, which will take a number of years to achieve, is to do as much of its exam processing on SAP as possible. This would mean handling some 800 million marks each year generated by the millions of candidates all over the world who sit our examinations. Even SAP is not fast enough by itself to process this many marks – the equivalent of approximately 2,000 marks per second. As a result, Cambridge Assessment, working with integration partner Cognizant and using another SAP product called Hana, has built what is in effect a superfast calculator that provides a solution - and results so far are positive. It is this “proof of concept” that has now been recognised by the industry with this award.

Other recipients of awards in our category of Innovation included Asian Paints, India's largest paint company, operating in 19 countries, and the Global Brands Group, one of the world's leading branded apparel and lifestyle products companies.

In Orlando to accept the award, Darlene Crossley, Cambridge Assessment IT Director, Threshold and Strategic Projects, said: “Congratulations once again to the joint Cambridge Assessment/Cognizant team who developed the Hana solution for their innovative and collaborative work.”

Mark Taylor, project manager, said: “It is great news for the team across Cambridge Assessment and Cognizant to have their ideas, commitment and hard work recognised by this award.”
