Cambridge Assessment donates £2,000 Book Aid International

A charity which sends up to a million books a year to Sub-Saharan Africa is the beneficiary of staff engagement at Cambridge Assessment.

Book Aid International has been presented with a cheque for £2,000 by Group HR Director Liz Allan, which represents a £1 donation for each employee who took part in Cambridge Assessment's all-staff survey called Your Work, Your Say.

Liz said: “Our aim is to become a Sunday Times Top 100 Best Company to Work For and ‘Giving Something Back’ is one of the key eight factors of engagement which staff were asked about in the survey. As an organisation that promotes excellence in education around the globe, we know that literacy is an important life skill and are delighted to be supporting Book Aid in their important work.”

Alison Hubert, Director of Book Aid International, said: “We are hugely appreciative of this very generous donation from Cambridge Assessment and delighted to have the support of the organisation and of their employees. At Book Aid International, we know the value that books and libraries can have, especially in areas of the world where many people have no access to books of their own.

"Through the generosity of supporters like Cambridge Assessment, we are able to send new, up to date and relevant books to libraries in Africa, as well as supporting library activities in schools, higher educational institutions, cities, rural settings, hospitals, prisons and refugee camps. Our work brings opportunities for some of the world’s poorest people to improve their reading, literacy and knowledge.”

Book Aid currently sends books to places including Cameroon, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, Somalia, Somaliland and Puntland, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
