The government is mid-consultation to understand how best to implement the Section 78 regulations – which will require employers with more than 250 employees to publish their gender pay gap. Until now, limited research has been done to understand what employees think about this.
We surveyed more than 1,000 women and men, and asked them to share their thoughts on gender pay gap reporting, the reasons for the pay gap, their attitudes towards employers and how they may react to their own employer’s pay gap.
Employers will probably be both surprised and challenged by the results in our report - employees already believe there is a pay gap in their organisation, and that transparency will contribute to closing the gender pay gap once and for all.
The reality is that legislation is coming. We urge employers to listen what employees are saying through this report and take action now to understand and publish their pay data.
