Business In The Community: Give & Gain Day 2015!!

Business In The Community: Give & Gain Day 2015!!

Thousands of employees from businesses across the UK are being urged to sign up to Give & Gain Day, the world’s only day of employee volunteering run by the charity Business in the Community. Give & Gain encourages more businesses and their employees to experience the power and potential of volunteering by spending a working day helping good causes in their local community. Now in its eighth year, it expects to see over 25,000 people take part globally and volunteer in their community on 15 May 2015.

Businesses across the UK contain legions of skilled, experienced and energetic employees who are all potential volunteers. By getting unprecedented numbers of people out volunteering on one day, Business in the Community aims to; raise awareness of the talent and skills found in UK business; highlight the genuine appetite amongst business to help communities prosper and encourage many more businesses to get involved in volunteering all year round.

Through Give & Gain Day, hundreds of community organisations, social enterprises and schools can benefit from the resources and knowledge that business can offer. Last year, over 200 companies supported 15,000 of their staff to volunteer on Give & Gain Day – helping over 600 community organizations in the UK. In total, the value of time donated by volunteers across the UK on Give & Gain Day was £1.8 million – an invaluable investment for communities. Business volunteers helped in schools, day centres and youth groups, doing everything from delivering employability workshops and CV training for the long term unemployed to supporting school sports days.

Stephen Howard, Chief Executive of Business in the Community said “Give & Gain Day is an opportunity for businesses, community organisations and schools to celebrate what can be achieved through the power of volunteers. Employee volunteering is a win-win, the experience builds skills and motivates employees, whilst helping meet community needs.”

Tina Varns, Sustainability and Ethical Sourcing Manager at Waitrose, sponsors of Give & Gain Day comments, "Volunteering is such an important part of what we do - each of our shops supports its staff to volunteer for local good causes, and by 2017 our Partners will have volunteered for 11,000 full working weeks, all while being fully paid.

"Over 1000 of our Partners were involved in Give and Gain Day last year. Our branches all reported it was such a rewarding event, supporting the health and wellbeing of our local communities. We're really looking forward to being involved again this year. Volunteering is a key way in which businesses such as ours can help make a real and visible difference to the communities in which we operate."

Sponsored by Waitrose and in association with BT, Give & Gain Day 2015 is dedicated to getting thousands of employees out of the office, store or factory to volunteer in their local communities. By making volunteering fun, accessible and inspirational Business in the Community aims to make it something that all businesses give their staff an opportunity to do in work time.
