Creative Diversity Network announces winners of the 2019 UK Television Diversity Awards

 

The Creative Diversity Network (CDN) today announced the winners of its 2019 UK Television Diversity Awards. The awards are held every two years to reward outstanding quality, creativity and diversity in television that represents all aspects of British society. The 2019 awards ceremony took place on Wednesday 9 October at The Ham Yard Hotel, London

ards, CDN recognises industry stakeholders who are leading the way in driving change across broadcasting around all aspects of our diverse society covering age, body image, disability, ethnicity, faith, gender, gender identity, regionality, sexuality and social class.

Deborah Williams, CDN Executive Director said: “I’d like to congratulate all the winners of the 2019 UK Television Diversity awards as well as those nominated. The strength of this year’s entries is a testament to our industry’s ability to create engaging, powerful content on screen and take positive action behind the scenes to help drive diversity across UK television.”

The 2019 winners are:

      Celebrating a Production Company’s commitment to producing diverse content.

    • Broadcaster of the Year
      Celebrating a Broadcaster’s active, demonstrable engagement with the diversity agenda.

      Celebrating a piece of work that disrupts the way the industry views or tackles an issue.
    • Exodus: Our Journey Continues (Keo Films, for BBC 2)
    • UnsungHero
      Rewarding the efforts of an employee who has gone above and beyond to champion diversity or enable accessible working environments.

  • Sangeeta Bhabra (Presenter, ITV Regional News)
  • Commissioning
    Celebrating a commission that has brought positive and authentic attention to a diverse community.
  • Butterfly (Red Production Company and Aenon for ITV)
  • Off-screen Recruitment, Training & Development
    Championing innovation in the provision of reasonable adjustments networks or training programmes.
  • Endemol Shine UK
  • Advocate in Industry
    Recognising a person(s) for their work championing one of the protected characteristic communities within the Broadcast industry through appearance at events, written, visual or audio work.
  • BBC CAPE
  • Digital Technology
    Employment of technology that has made a programme or access to programmes more every day.
  • Channel 4
  • Partnership
    Celebrating a project partner that has supported one of the members in the delivery of diversity or inclusion related work and working environments.
  • BBC Writersroom/Directors UK Continuing Drama Director’s Scheme

 

In addition, CDN presented two special awards:

    An award for outstanding support of the Creative Diversity Network and its agenda.

    An award for an outward facing leader who has foregrounded diversity.
