Bringing the Transport Sector Together apprenticeship event

The government is committed to creating 3 million high-quality apprenticeships by 2020 as part of its drive to help people fulfil their potential and boost business productivity.

During Apprenticeship Week (6 – 10 March), the Department for Transport (DfT) hosted its first ‘Bringing the Transport Sector Together’ event in London.  The event was a huge success and provided a fantastic opportunity for bringing together key people from across the Transport Sector who are central to progressing the apprenticeship agenda.

It was also a great opportunity for networking and to showcase the great work they are doing to attract apprentices and develop their skills, and to hear directly from some of our apprentices about the type of roles they are doing, what they are getting from an apprenticeship and how they are using their skills to make a difference.

Guy E Wilmshurst-Smith, Network Rail Training said:

“It was a great evening especially meeting the apprentices from such a wide spectrum of DfT activity.  As always, it’s the apprentices that bring home by the enthusiasm and character the huge impact that high quality schemes can have on both the live of individuals and the productivity of the sector as a whole.”

Gabrielle West, Apprentice, Group HR Policy Officer, DfT said:

“It was fantastic to see so many organisations and areas of the sector represented at the event, and to meet so many fellow apprentices! It was really encouraging to hear senior leaders talk with such enthusiasm about the apprenticeship agenda, and to talk with them about our own views and experiences.”

“The event was a wonderful opportunity for employers and apprentices alike to share stories, build connections and celebrate the success of apprenticeships in the Transport sector. I was proud to be there, celebrating all the important work that has taken place, and supporting National Apprenticeship Week 2017”
