“Often forgotten, black people have been present in the UK for centuries. Whilst our roles have been different and varied, the primary focus has been to assist in building up the UK into what it is today. Our contribution to the UK has been immense and whilst not always celebrated, it definitely should have been recognised.
The black community, particularly the 'Windrush Generation' worked exceptionally hard and in difficult and challenging circumstances. They were keen to have a role in developing the UK and determined to fill the plethora of roles available to them. Black History Month celebrates the contribution black people have made to the United Kingdom.
Providing education is an important step in working towards inclusion and a more harmonious society. CityFibre has been working hard to encourage their employees to check their unconscious bias by offering training and initiatives to all staff. Delving into this difficult topic is a huge undertaking, but it is one our company is prepared to take. If you're considering joining CityFibre, my advice to you would be to take the plunge! The environment might be new to you (as it was to me) but the support you will receive and the training and opportunities to grow will enhance your skills and aid you in your personal and professional development, irrespective of your background.
The Cultural Inclusion Network allows us to look at ourselves as a company and to think about how we can do things in a more inclusive way, utilising the varied skills and experiences that come from a diverse staff base. We have been afforded the opportunity to make a real difference and that in itself is very exciting.”
VERCIDA works with over one hundred clients who are committed to creating an inclusive work
environment. If you are an employer and interested in working with VERCIDA to promote your
diversity and inclusion initiatives and attract the best candidates, please email
