BBC children in Need Charity of the year for 2015 & 2016

As part of its commitment to helping Britain prosper, Lloyds Banking Group has today announced BBC Children in Need as its official Charity of the Year for 2015 and 2016 and aims to raise at least £2million per year in offices and branches across the UK.

Complementing its existing relationship with BBC Children in Need as its first ever Principal Partner and exclusive fundraising partner in schools, Group colleagues will fundraise together with customers to ensure that children and young people in the UK can have a safe, happy and secure childhood and have the opportunity to reach their potential.

Helping Britain Prosper

Lloyds Banking Group has committed to raising £12million through colleague fundraising for its charities of the year by 2020. The Group’s charity partnership with BBC Children in Need forms a key part of the Group’s commitment to bringing communities closer together to help them thrive, as indicated within its Helping Britain Prosper Plan.

The Group has a strong track record of colleague engagement in the Charity of the Year activities, with its recent two year partnership with Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer Scotland raising over £6million in funds during 2013 and 2014.

Challenges big and small

Fundraising has commenced with the launch of ‘Bear Necessities’, an opportunity to piggyback on the New Year resolutions of many of the Group’s colleagues, which will see them invited to give up a ‘Bear Necessity’ for a day, a week or a month and donate the money saved to BBC Children in Need. This might include giving up treats like coffee, chocolate or alcohol or cycling to work instead of getting public transport. Alongside these small fundraisers, as well regular items such as bake sales and dress down days, colleagues will also be invited to take part in extraordinary physical challenges that offer the experience of a lifetime. A network of colleague volunteer champions will encourage, enable and support colleagues in their fundraising efforts and help raise as much as possible for the charity.

Exclusive Partner in Schools

Through the Group’s role as exclusive partner, colleagues will also be able to volunteer their time to support local schools BBC Children in Need fundraising efforts, supporting the Group’s commitment to deliver one million volunteer hours by 2015, (2.3 million hours by 2020) as laid out in its Helping Britain Prosper Plan.

Graham Lindsay, Director, Responsible Business and Community Affairs at Lloyds Banking Group said "We are very proud to announce that our existing partnership with BBC Children in Need will expand to also become our Charity of the Year for the next two years. I have no doubt that colleagues across the whole of Lloyds Banking Group will continue to play a key part in our commitment to helping Britain prosper, by giving up their time to help raise millions in much needed funds to help children and young people across the UK to reach their potential."

Commenting on the partnership Carrie Green, Head of Corporate Partnerships at BBC Children in Need, added: “We are really excited that Lloyds Banking Group has appointed us as its Charity of the Year for the next two years, and are already seeing colleagues embracing the opportunity to fundraise and volunteer their time. Every penny raised by the Group’s fundraising will go directly to projects helping to change the lives of disadvantaged children and young people, right here in the UK.”
