Battling COVID-19 with BNY Mellon

CSR

In a spirit of solidarity, BNY Mellon employees stepped in to build up nonprofits stretched by the pandemic.

“We’re all in this together.” Few embodied the spirit of this saying more than our company’s passionate pro bono volunteers who stepped in to help community organizations left under-resourced and overwhelmed by the pandemic. Using the same world-class talent that delivers excellence to our clients, experts from BNY Mellon businesses, departments and regions around the world rolled up their sleeves to help nonprofit organizations meet the challenges of the pandemic and to function more efficiently and effectively.

One such nonprofit is Boston-based Acre Family Child Care, a network of home-based child-care providers serving nearly 400 children every day. Through training and support, Acre provides a pathway for hundreds of women to achieve economic independence by operating high-quality child care businesses in their homes. BNY Mellon experts from Compliance, Human Resources, Information Security and Finance collaborated with Acre to develop procedures for safeguarding the organization’s protected client and employee information.

In another consulting project, a team of marketers helped a career development nonprofit revamp its marketing materials. BNY Mellon financial analysts also assisted a literacy nonprofit to plan for an uncertain economic future. And, a group of technologists guided a large food bank in its transition to a virtual work environment.

“The pro bono team was excellent in their effort to really understand our work and our ‘customer.’ I can't say enough about how impressed I was with the team's dedication and commitment to our project.”

— Mission Society

Through these and other pro bono projects — including those facilitated by the company’s Legal Department — our employees provided nearly 3,000 hours of strategic consulting services on more than 50 nonprofit projects.

Evaluation surveys conducted by BNY Mellon’s nonprofit partner, Taproot Foundation, demonstrate the mutual impact of the company’s Signature Pro Bono Program. Volunteers’ technical assistance and advising builds the capacity of nonprofits to deliver on their missions while providing employees a unique engagement and development opportunity.
