Welcome to VERCIDA website.
Skip to main contentWhizz-Kidz are a charity for young wheelchair users working to transform the lives of disabled children from across the UK in supporting them to become independent young adults. Whizz-Kidz provide vital mobility equipment, support and life skills needed for these children to reach their full potential and look forward to a bright future.
As part of our work to support this important charity, we teamed up with the ‘Kidz Board’, a group of 8 young people representing Whizz-Kidz across the country. Earlier this year members of the board visited our developments across the UK looking at the accessibility of communal areas, producing a list of recommendations for improving the accessibility of our sites.
The board produced a list of 10 simple steps to make housing developments’ communal areas more accessible and presented them at an event held in London on Friday 30 November, which was attended by Barratt Chief Executive David Thomas and Whizz-Kidz Chief Executive Ruth Owen. The suggestions encouraged us to think more carefully about how we can improve the accessibility of our developments and are a great starting point. We are now actively looking for a development where we can pilot the recommendations.
Following the success of work placements arranged with Whizz-Kidz in the past, we are looking to continue this by offering more time for their wheelchair users to work in some of our divisions.
