A graduate at Barratt says construction relies on collaboration between departments and team members.
Barratt is the UK's largest home builder and receives consistent recognition for producing high quality homes. One graduate at the company believes the reason for Barratt's success is the collaboration which occurs between teams and departments within the business.
Chris Bell studied Building Project Management at Northumbria University and joined Barratt's Accelerated Construction Programme in 2014. He says everyone at Barratt works together to meet the end goal.
"The working environment at Barratt is based on a team philosophy," he says. "I receive great support from my contacts manager, my project manager and my site manager—ultimately to get the job done."
Chris works with a range of different departments in his role as Assistant Site Manager.
"I regularly collaborate with several other departments within Barratt," he says.
"It might be Sales to manage customer expectations, or the Quantity Surveying and Buying team to get materials to the site, schedule the correct amount of materials we need and to ensure we get the correct subcontractors we need for the jobs ahead."
The Barratt programme is designed to familiarise graduates with how this collaboration works. Chris has rotated through the business in order to gain a better understanding of their relationships.
"I recently completed the Accelerated Construction Programme which consisted of six departmental rotations," he says. "I spent several days in each department to learn about what each department does, how my decisions impact them and how each department relates to one another."
