Bank of England: Take a look at our Career Returners Programme

Category: Dependency (Parenting & Carers)

Title Return to work on red VERCIDA branded background

The Bank of England is partnering with Women Returners to launch their Career Returners Programme for professionals who are looking to return to work after an extended career break.

What you can expect

The Career Returners Programme offers a paid placement of six months, starting in September 2018, and the possibility of a permanent role at the end of the assignment.

Roles will be on offer in a number of areas of the PRA, such as:

  • Supervision
  • Policy
  • Central Support Functions

Roles will be located in the Bank’s London (Moorgate and Threadneedle Street) offices.

You will receive coaching support from Women Returners to help you to transition successfully back in to the workplace.

Flexible working options are available, including part-time working

The challenge

You’ll join a team that focuses on domestic and / or international insurance firms, banks, building societies and credit unions which vary in size, complexity and business model. Alternatively, there are teams that provide a PRA-wide function, e.g. operations, change delivery, and secretariat. Whichever you are in, you’ll help lead on prudential risk assessment and mitigation, or support how the PRA operates. This will see you analysing anything from business models and capital data to operations and governance. You’ll also build the senior-level relationships you’ll need to make recommendations and influence change based on your findings and research.

Your work will be high profile and complex and will involve making sound judgements and decisions.  Your work will have great impact and the insight into the workings of the financial sector you gain will be unique. What’s more, the Bank’s openness to flexible working will ensure that you can maintain a healthy work/life balance.

Who the Bank are looking for

The Programme is aimed at people who have had a career break of two or more years.

For all levels of role, you must be willing to learn across a broad range of disciplines, have good analytical and problem-solving skills, combined with the ability to process, interpret and question large amounts of complex data, and work collaboratively as part of a dedicated team. The ability to communicate your findings effectively is also vital, both in person and in writing, as well as the ability to manage other important priorities/projects alongside your day to day jobs. Professional work experience is a must, because you’ll need the ability to influence and operate at a senior level.

The right skills are more important than the right background. Financial experience is not essential for all roles, though would be beneficial. The current Bank of England PRA teams include people from a range of backgrounds such as science, government, civil service and the military.

The opportunity

The Bank is absolutely committed to having an inclusive environment. They are keen to receive applications from all candidates who might be interested in working flexibly, including part-time working.

Join them, and together you’ll get you the training, support and tailored working options you need to potentially build a lasting and impactful career within the PRA or the wider Bank.

An example of the type of work that the PRA does can be seen by clicking on the attached link. This site provides information specific to the work of the Supervision teams within the PRA. http://pra.bankofenglandcareers.co.uk/

Salary will vary depending on the type of role taken and the level of experience, and will fall within a range of between £40,000 - £60,000 In addition to base salary you will be eligible for an extensive benefits package (including non-contributory pension scheme, 7% benefits allowance, private medical and income protection insurance, 25 days annual leave with option to buy up to 13 additional days, plus others).

How to apply

Please complete the application form in full to be considered.

Once applications have been received and reviewed you may be invited to complete a short assessment that is used regularly within the PRA. Those who are successful will then be invited in for a face to face competency based interview.

We envisage interviews to take place at the end of May and beginning of June.

Closing date for applications:  Wednesday 2 May 2018
