Sarah Parr, Graphic Designer at Atkins discusses why she loves the work she does and what attracted her to apply for the role through Diversityjobs.
What would you say is the best part of being a graphic designer at Atkins?
We do work for all the departments throughout Atkins so we get involved in a huge variety of projects, some large and some small. One minute we’re designing a brochure or drawing some diagrams for a bid document and the next we’re designing exhibition stands and user interfaces for the latest Virtual Reality programme we’re developing. It keeps every day interesting and you learn so much!
What attracted you to applying for the role at Atkins on Diversityjobs?
Most job websites give you little to no information about the company they’re advertising the job for. Diversityjobs give you a lot of information about Atkins - what it stands for and believes in and programmes that it offers its employees, which helped me decide this was a place I wanted to work. This was a refreshing change. The testimonials from staff members are helpful too. It’s the attention to detail on this website that was most impressive.
If you could give any piece of advice to someone interested in a career in graphics what would it be?
Keep learning – the design world is constantly changing, keep up to date with the latest as much as possible. There is always something new to learn, use tutorials and take time to practise, work hard and learn from others. Inspiration is everywhere – keep your eyes and mind open!
