Arcadis Supports the Inspiring Women in Construction Pledge
Category: Women, Women in Construction, Gender Equality, female equality, Arcadis
Arcadis UK is one of 15 founding signatories of the Construction News Inspiring Women Pledge, an initiative launched to help firms in the sector become more welcoming to women. Making this pledge demonstrates the determination of Arcadis to promote gender equality.
“Creating an environment where we acknowledge, respect, value and nurture people for who they are and what they bring to the communities we serve is really important to Arcadis and to our long-term sustainability. People thrive when their diversity is acknowledged and catered for, which means looking at barriers and success through multiple lenses to create a culture that benefits everyone," says Lucy England, Arcadis People Director for UK & Ireland.
"Being a diverse and inclusive business will foster innovation and creativity, will allow us to reflect the communities we serve in the solutions we provide to our clients, and will ultimately enable us to make better decisions as a business,” added Lucy.
Making a pledge for gender equality in the sector
As well as a public statement of intent, the pledge offers a roadmap of goals towards greater equality. As a signatory to the Inspiring Women in Construction Pledge, Arcadis agrees to:
Recognise the diverse perspectives and skills that women bring to the workforce
Make unconscious-bias training mandatory for anyone in charge of selecting other people
Use inclusive language in recruitment adverts and job descriptions
Establish programmes for female employees to support career progression
Take steps to close their gender pay gap.
"Our Gender workstream (and EDI team as a whole) get such amazing support and it’s a real privilege to be involved!" tweeted Fiona Sugden, Chartered Project Professional at Arcadis who works for the Environment Agency, leading the Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme Natural Flood Management Project.
