Today is Thursday. Or is it Tuesday? Actually.... I’m sure it’s Wednesday? As the global pandemic keeps the majority of us at home, our working habits, and hours, have changed and we have adapted to the new normal.
As an Aon Colleague, I am used to working from home 3 days per week in the ‘pre pandemic’ world. This flexibility allowed me to spend time in the office with colleagues and clients but also to focus on my personal deliverables autonomously when at home. For me, the change to home working full time was seamless. I was already set up with all the access I needed and took Aon up on the offer of additional kit, ordering a laptop riser. The new kit helped me differentiate between work and home life.
What hasn’t been quite so easy was helping my 2 year old to realise that difference!
He has loved the extra time with Mummy and Daddy but he is too young to understand why he can’t have our attention 100% of the time. Aon have been super supportive of the challenges parents are facing when working from home and juggling childcare. I feel very fortunate to have attended team meetings with him playing in the background. On the occasions he has wanted to say hello, my colleagues have been understanding, often then taking the time to introduce their own children in response.
I’ve also been able to flex my working pattern to ensure I can help out with nap or meal times meaning, I can still play the role of Mummy around my business responsibilities.
At a time when anxiety levels are high it’s great to know that there is one less thing to worry about.
