Andrew Taylor is Executive Assistant to Mark Allan, Group Executive Director, Brit and CEO, Ki. An advocate for diversity and inclusion in the London Market, he shares his thoughts on widening the pool from which we recruit.
I’ve been at Brit for three and a half years and my job is ultimately around supporting Mark. It ranges from project co-ordination to more traditional assistant duties such as organising travel and making sure his schedule runs smoothly. I lead the Brit Sports and Social committee, which is a great way to network internally and get to know colleagues I wouldn’t ordinarily interact with in my day-to-day role. I’m also a committee member on Link: the London Market LGBT network.
One of the main attractions about working here is the culture and how supportive Brit are of any person, from any walk of life. Broadening the pool adds diversity of thought and perspective, whether this is from the retail sector or the banking industry it can bring value. More importantly, attracting different types of people can help make our market more robust and create a more inclusive culture.
Brit does a great job working with organisations like SEO London and Vercida to attract people with different backgrounds and help young, sometimes disadvantaged people into work. Additionally, the I&D program is very effective; when people see a company doing the right things it helps drive interest and engagement, supporting our ability to attract great individuals.
