Read about the American Express Pride UK 2015, which was mentioned in the Stonewall's Starting out LGBT careers guide.
American Express has had focus on building a diverse and inclusive workforce for more than three decades. We encourage people from all backgrounds, talents and perspectives to thrive and succeed. As a 2015 Stonewall Top Employer, we foster a culture where employees feel they can speak up and have their voice heard.
At American Express it's incredibly important that we build an employee base that is as diverse as the customers and communities we serve, and to be an employer of choice. Nurturing an inclusive environment attracts a diverse workforce; employees like knowing they work for a company that supports equality and opportunities for all.
From a global perspective, we have Chief Diversity Officer to champion diversity and inclusion across the company. In addition, thousands of Amex employees around the world are part of a special interest employee network group, such as the Women's Interest Network (WIN), the UK Black and Asian Network (BAAN), the Disability Awareness Network (DAN) and Pride UK for LGBT employees.
These groups provide support, mentoring and networking opportunities to connect with like-minded colleagues. Importantly, the network groups are also proactive externally - supporting the communities where we live and work through various activities and events.
Our own longstanding Pride UK network is run by a group of dedicated and inspiring colleagues from across the business. We offer everyone the opportunity to make a real impact on the business and our community. They are encouraged to develop their own skills, which in turn supports their professional development. We are proud that Pride UK is Stonewall's Network Group of the Year 2015 and was named LGBT Network Group of the Year at the British LGBT Awards in April 2015.
The Pride UK employee network supports a range of events, including Brighton Pride and the Stonewall Brighton Equality Walk. It has also led many local community initiatives, including student community mentoring programmes with Brighton University and Brighton & Hove City Council.
