Career experts: 5 Careers You Might Not Have Thought About

You might think work and enjoyment won’t ever go hand-in-hand but while all jobs have their down sides you should at least get a sense of satisfaction and enjoyment from your work.

Some careers advice tries too hard to fit your skills to particular positions but at the end of the day you can simplify the whole process and strip it down to two fundamental questions. What am I good at? What do I enjoy?

This goes for school leavers and graduates through to experienced people who want to change their careers. In a bid to show you that you don’t have to narrow your career options, here five things you may not have considered that might be worth considering…

Blogger
Do you love writing? Have you always had a flair for expressing yourself? Put that to good use in your career. These days many of the barriers that were once in place to stop you from getting your words in to print have been removed. You can get going right away with a blog. Set up a page, write regular posts about a topic you’re passionate about and build your ‘brand’ on social media. It might take time – and plenty of patience - but if you get yourself established and signed to an agency you can make a living from blogging.

Industrial spray painter
If you’re the sort of person who has always had a flair for art but haven’t been sure what to do with it, maybe it’s time to find a practical outlet for your talents. Artists used to expressing themselves on canvas or murals can instead help to provide strong branding and imagery for planes, trains and automobiles by getting involved in the industrial sector. Instead of a simple spray can or paint brush you’ll be needing booths and specialist equipment from the likes of Airblast AFC – but you’ll still be tapping in to your innate ability to translate a design concept into reality.

Shopper
Do you love to shop ‘til you drop? This may be no bad thing – and there might even be a way to make sure that your shopping trips end up with money coming in rather than going out for a change. Many people struggle to pick out clothes that suit their shape and style and want someone to help. Personal shoppers can earn good money by fulfilling this need. This job used to be something only celebrities and the super-rich afforded, but increasing numbers of people are now choosing to invest in someone with a good eye for fashion.

Hand model
You don’t have to have the total ‘catwalk package’ to be able to make a living as a model. People with nice hands, feet or even hair can put their best asset to use by modeling in that specific area. Most of this work is freelance but you can get yourself on the books of an agency and win yourself some lucrative assignments – all for sitting still and sticking your hand out! Some people can even double for celebrities when they’re launching their own product ranges.

Tutor
If you’ve got knowledge or expertise in a particular field then why not pass it on? Recent graduates can offer up their tips to the next batch of students while people who have been in one field of work for a particular period of time can train up the next generation of recruits. Helping others to learn can be rewarding and help you reflect on what you are good at yourself while also, importantly, earning money at the same time.
