3 things you didn’t know about working for Lloyd’s

Lloyd’s aims to attract talented employees through exclusive recruitment programmes. These programmes are designed to find the best people regardless of background. People are selected for employment, promotion or development by simply criteria: how good you are and how well you do.

The Diversity and Inclusion Steering Committee, made up of representatives from across the company, encourages diversity and an inclusive culture. This is reflected in the latest employee survey, where 92% of Lloyd’s employees said they were treated fairly and with respect. The company also undertakes the following initiatives to ensure inclusion and diversity in the workplace.

1) Race/Ethic Minority Initiatives

Lloyd’s works in partnership with Race for Opportunity, which is committed to improving employment opportunities for ethnic minorities across the UK. Lloyd’s has put development and leadership programmes and mentoring schemes in place to support employees from all ethnic backgrounds. This is why Lloyd’s is in VERCIDA’s top 10 black, Asian and minority ethnicity (BAME) employers of 2017.

2) Women in Finance Charter

Women are feeling outnumbered and unsupported in the finance industry. To combat this, Lloyd’s became a charter signatory of the Women in Finance Charter in 2016. The Charter is a government backed initiative designed to improve gender diversity in senior positions across the financial services sector. A target of having at least 40% females in senior management positions has been set for the next five years. The company has appointed Peter Spires responsible for gender diversity and inclusion. Pete is also the Executive Sponsor of “Inspire” – the Lloyd’s Gender Equality network.

3) Disability Initiatives

Lloyd’s is committed to finding the best employees, regardless of disability. To promote disability inclusiveness, Lloyd’s works to provide workplace adjustments and improve accessibility. A disability network, awareness events and training and flexible working arrangements are offered to employees. The company also provides adaptive technology where necessary. Lloyd’s has won awards such as: Disability Confident, Disability Smart Awards, Disability Standard 216 Award, Business Disability Forum Award.
