3 things you didn’t know about working for Lendlease

1. Supporting Women in Construction

According to the Office of National Statistics, the divide between men and women working in construction was 87-13 in 2016. Lendlease is committed to creating a level playing field so that everyone has a chance of success in the industry. To encourage more females to take up careers in the industry, Lendlease introduced a 50:50 graduate mix. Female graduates joining Lendlease rose from 38% in 2015 to 54% in 2017. The company also broadened its criteria to encourage a wider mix of subject backgrounds. Consequently, there has been a measurable difference in the number of women applying each year. Lendlease aims to grow the number of women in building industries to 50% by 2025.

2. Shared parental leave

Around 285,000 couples in the UK are eligible for shared parental leave, but take-up can be as low as 1%. Introduced in April 2015, shared parental leave was designed to enable dads to take a greater share of childcare. Lendlease believes in work-life balance and offers enhanced parental leave (six months at full pay) irrespective of gender.

3. LGBT+ Network

Lendlease actively supports and celebrates LGBT colleagues. The company aims to create an environment where every individual feels comfortable sharing who they are. Lendlease earned a Stonewall Diversity Champion award for taking part in campaigns including Rainbow Laces, Pride and Marching for Equality. Lendlease is also a founding member of Building Equality, an alliance of construction firms committed to championing inclusion. The firms are working collaboratively to ensure that the construction industry is a place where LGBT people can be themselves.
