This week (24-28 April) is Business in the Community’s Responsible Business Week, which aims to help businesses celebrate the fantastic work they are doing towards being a responsible business.

The week aims to highlight the brighter side of a business, which usually gets hidden behind a corporate façade. The campaign brings to the forefront the real people making a difference, improving society and changing lives through their commitment to being a responsible business.

Business in the Community is calling upon responsible businesses of all sizes to use this week to inspire others about the benefits of being a responsible business and showcase how they contribute to society throughout the year.

The theme for this year’s Responsible Business Week is “Make the Digital Revolution Human” and focuses on how the advancement in digital can be accessible to all. It is hoped that it will provide a platform for businesses to learn, share, celebrate and build a better approach to responsible business, and inspire more businesses to address the most pressing social and environmental issues in the process.

What’s happening?

Business in the Community will be launching a breakdown of what a company can do to deliver a digital revolution that is accessible to everyone, and will run a high profile panel debate with CBI and TUC, as well as a number of events throughout the week.

Monday kicked off the week with two events: The Future of Digital is Human, where a panel discussed the human aspect of the digital revolution, and a Sustainability Conference, which built upon BITC’s guidelines for sustainable business models internationally.

Barclays headquarters in London hosted BITC’s Ensuring an Inclusive Digital Revolution event yesterday, which consisted of a learning forum where digital disruption was discussed through interactive workshops. The event also saw the announcement of the 2017 Responsible Business Awards Shortlisted with the Financial Times.

Today will see BITC partner with Building Research Establishment and Adler and Allan to help Britain prepare for future floods, whilst a summit: Smart Growth towards a Net Zero, Resilient Economy, will take place tomorrow. In partnership with EDF Energy and the Grantham Centre for Sustainable Futures, the summit will explore how a net zero economy can boost growth, deliver new jobs and build a stronger society.

The week will wrap up on Friday with Community Conservation events taking place around the country. The events aim to bring together business volunteers and community organisations who could benefit from their skills. Plus, Keith Weed, CMO of Unilever, will lead a delegation of business leaders on a visit to explore digital disruption in the new economy.

Tell your story

As a responsible business you can share your experiences to customers, clients and partners. In doing so, you will advertise your values and add purpose to your operations, therefore, extending the reach of your communications and building valuable trust in your brand.

Get social in #RBweek

Use Twitter, Instagram and other social channels to build a buzz around this year’s Responsible Business Week and shout about the positive impact of your business.

Stop the Press

Consider aligning your planned media activities and announcements to achieve the largest impact when sharing the fantastic difference your business is making.


There are plenty of opportunities for you to take advantage of over the week, which will help you to learn and discover new ideas.

Engage your employees

Employees are your greatest assets – use the week to promote your achievements and thank those involved whilst also creating many new ideas.

Be an ambassador

If you are a Business in the Community member be an ambassador for the movement by showcasing your member planter publically to shine a light on your responsible business activities.
