We want to be a truly inclusive organisation, and over the last 2 years we have reaffirmed our commitment to race equality. We are determined to take radical action in order to make real, meaningful and lasting change happen.
Through focus groups and inclusion forums, we have been talking to our staff about their lives and their experiences - including what it feels like to work at Camden – collating the thoughts and feedback which has formed the heart of our new Race Equality Action Plan.
We will challenge our current system to create a fair and equal organisation for everyone
The plan sets out over 30 actions which we commit to take, to tackle the structural and systemic organisational barriers that prevent our Black staff, Asian staff and staff of other non-white ethnicities from accessing opportunities equally and ensure that staff will not be disadvantaged due to their ethnicity.
Some of the action we commit to take through the plan includes:
- Reviewing our entire end-to-end recruitment process to understand how and where it is disadvantaging our Black, Asian and minority ethnic colleagues
- Committing to better diversity in all interview panels and no all white candidate shortlists for roles at level 5 and above
- Reviewing our sponsorship and mentoring scheme to see how much further we can go
- Developing a package of resources and rolling out Anti-Racism training for all staff to equip everyone with the skills needed to recognise and challenge racism.
We regularly update our staff on our progress – and review and update the plan based on feedback
We want to make sure that we are holding ourselves accountable through publishing this plan. We will be regularly updating staff on our progress and provide opportunities to input into the shaping of this work.
